Alicia’s Christmas Market River Cruise Adventure: A Journey Through the Heart of Europe

Strasbourg, Wine Tastings, and the Breathtaking Rhine Gorge

My European river cruise continues to amaze me with each passing day. From the charming streets of Strasbourg to the serene beauty of the Rhine Gorge, every moment has been filled with adventure, culture, and a dash of festive spirit.

Day 3 – Strasbourg and Baden-Baden

We started the day in Strasbourg, a city that beautifully blends French and German influences. Its UNESCO-listed Old Town, known as La Petite France, felt like stepping into a winter fairytale. The half-timbered houses and canals were picture-perfect, and I couldn’t resist a stroll through the Christmas market—the oldest in France! A highlight? The breathtaking Strasbourg Cathedral, whose Gothic spire dominates the skyline.

Later, we visited Baden-Baden, famed for its thermal baths and elegant vibe. While I didn’t have time for a spa session, wandering the city’s picturesque streets was just as rejuvenating. We were able to visit the Christmas Market here also - two markets in one day! Perfection.

Day 4 – Rüdesheim Wine Tasting

The charming village of Rüdesheim welcomed us with open arms. Known for its Riesling wines, this quaint spot was the perfect setting for a wine-tasting excursion. From delicate whites to robust reds, every sip was a testament to the region’s winemaking expertise.

I also strolled down the famous Drosselgasse, a cobblestoned street lined with wine taverns and shops. The atmosphere was lively, and the holiday decorations added a magical touch.

Day 5 – Rhine Gorge Sailing

Today was all about breathtaking views as we sailed through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This stretch of the Rhine is dotted with medieval castles, charming villages, and steep vineyards that seem to defy gravity.

One of the highlight was sailing by the legendary Lorelei Rock, shrouded in myth and history. It’s easy to see why this part of the Rhine has inspired poets and artists for centuries—it’s pure magic.

Day 6 – Bernkastel Walking Tour & Wine Tasting

In Bernkastel, I fell in love with the quaint medieval streets and colorful half-timbered houses. It’s like stepping into a storybook 😍

The local guide shared fascinating stories about the town’s history, from its origins to its role in the wine trade (there is such EXPENSIVE wine produced here… eep!) It was the perfect blend of education and indulgence!

This town is a wine lover’s paradise, and we enjoyed another fantastic wine tasting. The region is known for its Riesling, and each glass seemed to capture the essence of this beautiful place.
