From the moment I boarded the plane to my first days in Basel and embarking on the ship, it’s already been an unforgettable experience. Here’s a glimpse of the first few days of my trip—filled with travel tips, stunning views, and some amazing moments.
Nov 25th - Travel Day: The Adventure Begins
Travel days always come with a mix of excitement and anticipation. After a long flight and crossing time zones, I was ready to start my European adventure. I always make an effort to adjust my sleep schedule a few days before departure, which helps me hit the ground running when I land. I also set my watch to the local time before I even get on the plane—it’s a little trick I use to help my body adjust to the time zone shift.
Once on the plane, I did my best to get as much sleep as possible. My top travel tip? Don’t nap when you arrive! I’ve learned that powering through the first day without naps helps me adapt to the new time zone faster and ensures I make the most of my time on the trip.
Nov 26th - Arrival in Basel: First Impressions
I finally arrived in Basel, Switzerland, and it did not disappoint. The city’s charm is undeniable, with a perfect mix of old-world architecture and modern vibes. Basel’s Old Town is full of character, with narrow streets and beautiful buildings. The River Rhine runs through the heart of the city, making it a perfect starting point for a European river cruise.
As soon as I stepped out into the crisp Swiss air, I knew I was in for something special. Though my time here was short, I can't wait to spend more time here on a longer stay, but alas, this trip I only have one night.
I started off with a meal with friends immediately after landing, and then an early night. Getting an upgraded room at the hotel was an amazing bonus!!!
The next morning I had a bit of time to explore the city. The Christmas markets haven’t started here yet (boo), but you can see all the shops and streets are starting to get decorated and pretty!
Day 1 - Embarkation to the Ship: Settling In
Today was the day I boarded the ship! There’s always something magical about stepping aboard a river cruise vessel, knowing that the next several days will be filled with breathtaking sights and experiences.
The ship is absolutely beautiful, with a modern and elegant design that makes you feel right at home. All the Christmas decorations were so magical - I cannot fully explain how it makes you feel when you first step into the ship. The crew greeted us with such warmth and hospitality - sigh - I just love river cruising.
I took some time to get settled into my cabin and explore the ship, which I’ll be sharing in a video tour soon. The amenities are fantastic, and I’m already looking forward to all the comfort and luxury that comes with cruising through Europe’s scenic rivers.
Day 2 - Excursion to Riquewihr: A Fairytale Village
The first excursion of the cruise took me to Riquewihr, France, a village so enchanting it feels like stepping into a storybook. Nestled in the Alsace wine region, Riquewihr is famous for its beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and surrounding vineyards.
Wandering through this magical town was a highlight of the trip so far. The colors of the houses, the charming boutiques, and the tantalizing scent of local delicacies created an unforgettable atmosphere. We also learned about the region’s history and its importance in Alsatian wine production. It was like a dream come true.
